What this site stores

This site sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. The site runs on Cloudflare, which handles your IP address to deliver the pages. It counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and no local storage.

The YouTube player

Videos load only when you press Load the player here on an episode page. From that moment YouTube, a service of Google, receives your IP address and may store data in your browser, under its own privacy policy. We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. If you would rather not, read the transcript on the page. Watching on YouTube itself also gives YouTube your data.

If you sign up, we send one email to confirm your address, and nothing else until you confirm. We store your email address, the text you agreed to, the time, your IP address and your browser type, so we can show that you asked for it. Entistar B.V. is responsible for this data. It is stored with Supabase in the EU, and emails are sent with Twilio SendGrid in the United States, which records whether an email was opened and which links were clicked, so we can see what readers care about. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe. An address that is not confirmed within 30 days is deleted, together with its sign-up record. After you unsubscribe we keep your address and your sign-up record, marked as unsubscribed, so we can show what you agreed to and stop emailing you.

Writing to us

If you write to us, we use your address and message to answer you and delete them when the matter is closed.

Your data and your rights

We send the newsletter with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing. We run the site, count visits and answer your messages on the basis of our legitimate interest. Cloudflare and Twilio are US companies and rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework for transfers to the United States. You can ask to see, correct or delete your data at any time, or object to how we use it, and you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

AI and images

Episodes are narrated by an AI voice. AI tools help with research, each script is drafted with AI, and a separate AI editing round checks it. Paul Veth picks each story and its angle, reviews every cut and presses publish. Images on this site are AI-generated illustrations unless a credit says otherwise. They do not show real people, and they are not photographs of real events or places.
